It's so windy here!

Wednesday July 6th and we decided this morning to skip our last safari ride- truly we had seen more animals than we thought we would and we wanted to enjoy the lodge as our stay was so short. I woke up at 7 and while the rest slept I sat on the lookout deck, sipping coffee and watching Africa below- it was incredible.  Pretty soon we were all up and taking a slow morning- we packed our bags and headed up for our last meal :(  The breakfast so good- not a bad meal to be had here.  More coffee and then we were on our way. Themba and Xex had our stuff loaded and we drove the 15 minutes to our car as we waved sadly goodbye to Thanda.  A herd on Impala and 7 giraffe were on the way to say goodbye.  Then we were on our way south to Umhlanga.  We made a quick stop in at Hluhluwe for some more biltong and then on the road.  The N2 is a pretty easy road to drive- but in the areas where there is only one lane people are so impatient to pass you it is scary as you have to pull over and drive on the shoulder so that thy don't have a head on collision.  Then you when driving you have to be very careful not to hit a person or goat maybe, on the side of the road.
3 hours later and we were approaching the coast- it was so windy as we reached Balito and the wind was picking up.  But the time we arrived a this apartment in Umhlanga it was gale force winds- about 40km/hr - wow.  Then we got up to our apartment on the 9th floor and it was HOWLING - so loud!! But the ocean views are stunning- we can see all the way to Durban from up her.
We settled in and then headed up the street to get some groceries at the Pick 'n Pay.  The prices are very reasonable here for a Canadian - we bought a lot of stuff- plus some beer and wine and were under $100, can't do that at home!  Back at the apartment we had a little relax and then drove the 2 minutes into town for dinner- we were headed to Barbacoe for dinner- it was a place that was recommended to us at Thanda.  We feasted on a great steak menu and some good craft beer, and wine.  A really good meal all round and once again very reasonable - around $80 for all of us (that included a bottle of wine I corked and brought home with me!)
Then we retired for the night as the wind howled all around- a nice chill day.
